L'Anfora
In the heart of the old ghetto, as always: Venetian cooking that changes every day, glasses of good wine and wooden tables you share with whoever happens by.
“In the land of lies, truth is a disease.”
Gianni Rodari — from one of the signs hanging at the counter
The osteria
Worn wooden tables, a big counter, bottles everywhere and walls without a free inch: paintings, signs, a swordfish, handwritten notes. L'Anfora is a traditional, slightly bohemian osteria — the kind you don't design: it just becomes this way, over the years.
You come for an “ombra” of wine or a proper spritz, you stay for the kitchen. It's often packed: if you haven't booked, you may end up sharing a table. That's part of the charm.
The food
The menu changes every day, following the market and the season. These are some dishes that come around often — the blackboard in the room has the final word.
- * Creamed salt cod
- * Spaghetti with clams
- * Pappardelle with chicken livers and mushrooms
- * Venetian-style liver with polenta
- * Stewed tripe
- * Mussels in white sauce
- * Roast pheasant
- * Tiramisù and crème brûlée
Indicative dishes: today's menu is at the osteria.
The room
As it was and as it is: little has changed, thankfully.
